La rescatadora de frases: 20,000 days on Earth

“Songwriting is about counterpoint. Counterpoint is the key. Putting two disparate images beside each other and seeing which way the sparks fly. Like letting a small child in the same room as… I don’t know… a Mongolian psychopath or something. And just sitting back and seeing what happens. Then you send in a clown, say on a tricycle. And again you wait, and you watch. And if that doesn’t do it… You shoot the clown”.

“The first time I saw Susie was at the Victoria and Albert museum in London, and when she came walking in, all the things I had obsessed over for all the years, pictures of movie stars, Jenny Agutter in the billabong, Anita Ekberg in the fountain, Ali MacGrow in her black tights, images from the TV when I was a kid, Barbara Eden and Elizabeth Montgomery and Abigail, Miss World competitions, Marilyn Monroe and Jennifer Jones and Bo Derek and Angie Dickinson as police woman, Maria Falconetti and Suzi Quatro, Bolshoi ballerinas and Russian gymnasts, Wonder Woman and Barbarella and supermodels and page 3 girls. All the endless impossible fantasies, the young girls at the Wangaratta pool lying on the hot concrete, Courbet’s Origin of the World, Bataille’s bowl of milk, Jean Simmons’ nose ring, all the stuff I had heard and seen and read. Advertising and TV commercials, billboards and fashion spreads and Playmate of the month, Caroline Jones dying in Elvis’ arms, Jackie O in mourning, Tinker Bell trapped in the drawer. All the continuing, never-ending drip-feed erotic data came together at that moment in one great big crash-bang. And I was lost to her, and that was that.”

“It’s your limitations that make you the wonderful disaster you most probably are.”

“All of our days are numbered. We cannot afford to be idle. To act on a bad idea is better than to not act at all, because the worth of an idea never becomes apparent until you do it.
Sometimes this idea can be the smallest thing in the world – a little flame that you hunch over, and cup with your hand, and pray will not be extinguished by all the storm that howls about it. If you can hold on to that flame, great things can be constructed around it that are massive, and powerful, and world changing. All held up by the tiniest of ideas”.

“In the end, I'm not interested in that which I fully understand. The words I have written over the years are just a veneer. There are truths that lie beneath the surface of the words...Truths that rise up without warning, like the humps of a sea monster... and then disappear. What performance and song is to me is finding a way to tempt the monster to the surface, To create a space...Where the creature can break through what is real and what is known to us. This shimmering space, where imagination and reality intersect... this is where all love and tears and joy exist. This is the place. This is where we live”.

La rescatadora de frases: Birdman

Note on Riggan's dressing room mirror: “A thing is a thing, not what is said of that thing”.

*

Mike Shiner: Popularity is the slutty little cousin of prestige, my friend.

Riggan Thomson: I'm broke, I'm not sleeping and this play keeps hitting me in the balls with a tiny little hammer.

*

Tabitha: He's a Hollywood clown in a lycra bird suit.
Mike: Yes, he is, but he's going out on that stage and risking everything.

Riggan: [as Birdman] People, they love blood. They love action. Not this talky, depressing, philosophical bullshit.

(La gente adora la sangre. Adora la acción. No estas pamplinas parlanchinas, deprimentes y filosóficas).

*

Jake: "Oh my gosh! How do you know Mike Shiner?"
Lesley: "We share a vagina."

(- ¡Oh, Dios mio! ¿De qué conoces a Mike Shiner?
- Compartimos vagina).

Sam Thomson: Nobody gives a s*** but you! And let's face it, dad, you are not doing this for the sake of art. You are doing this because you want to feel relevant again. Well guess what? There is an entire world out there where people fight to be relevant every single day and you act like it doesn't exist. Things are happening in a place that you ignore, a place that, by the way, has already forgotten about you. I mean, who the f*** are you? You hate bloggers. You mock Twitter. You don't even have a Facebook page. You're the one who doesn't exist. You're doing this because you're scared to death, like the rest of us, that you don't matter and, you know what, you're right. You don't! It's not important, okay? You're not important! Get used to it.

No eres relevante, ¿vale? ¡Véte acostumbrando!).

Riggan: [as Birdman] Shave off that pathetic goatee. Get some surgery. Sixty's the new thirty, motherfucker!

(Aféitate esta patética perilla. Hazte la cirugía estética. ¡Los 60 son los nuevos 30, motherfucker!).

*

Riggan: Just find me an actor. A good actor. Give me Woody Harrelson.
Jake: He's doing the next Hunger Games.
Riggan: Michael Fassbender?
Jake: He's doing the prequel to the X-Men prequel.
Riggan: How about Jeremy Renner?
Jake: Who?
Riggan: Jeremy Renner. He was nominated. He was the Hurt Locker guy. He's an Avenger. Fuck, they put him in a cape too?

(-Encuentrame un actor. Uno Bueno. Tráeme a Woody Harrelson.

Lesley: When I dreamed of Broadway, I never pictured the elk antlers.

*

Mike Shiner: You've been hanging around here trying to make yourself invisible behind this fragile fucked up routine of yours, but you can't. You want to be invisible, but you're not. You’re big, a giant mess like a candle burning at both ends, but it's beautiful.

Mike Shiner: I pretend just about everywhere else, but I don't pretend out there.

*
Tabitha: I'm gonna close your play. Would you like to know why? Because I hate you and everyone you represent. Entitled, selfish, spoiled children. Blissfully untrained, unversed and unprepared to even attempt real art. Handing each other awards for cartoons and pornography. Measuring your worth in weekends?

(Voy a cargarme tu obra.

Riggan: What has to happen in a person's life to become a critic anyway?

Oliver: [narrating] My parents got married in 1955, they had a child and they stayed married for 44 years, until my mother died. Six months later my father told me he was gay. I remember him wearing a purple sweater when he told me this, but actually he wore a robe.

Oliver:[showing Arthur the apartment] This is the bathroom, this is the living room, this is dining room, where people come and eat some times.

Anna: You can ask me anything you want.
Oliver: Anything? What's there?
Anna: That's a tree. And Cars. Another building like this one. People in the building like us, half of them think it's never going to work out, the other half believe in magic. It's like a war between them.

Anna: puedes preguntarme lo que quieras
Oliver: ¿lo que quiera? ¿qué es eso de ahí?
Anna: eso es un árbol. Y coches.

First couple to marry for wrong reasons.
Oliver's drawing

Oliver: [Talking to Arthur the dog] Look it is lonely out here so you better learn how to talk with me.
[Arthut talking telepathically] While I understand up to 150 words - I don't talk.

Anna: But now I'm always in a new apartment or in another hotel somewhere.
Oliver: How do you keep hold of friends? Or boyfriends?
Anna: Makes it very easy to end up alone. To leave people.
Oliver: You can stay in the same place and still find ways to leave people.

Oliver: Someone flashy walks into your life and you're just gonna fall for it.
Arthur: are we married yet?
Oliver: No, it doesn't work like that, there are other steps complicated.

Oliver: This is what it looks like when she cries. When she tells me there's always a new empty room waiting for her. They used to make her feel free. Now they make her feel the opposite of free.

Anna: You've lost so much. What if I can't make up for that?

Anna: Has perdido mucho... ¿y si no puedo compensarte por ello?

Anna: Why do you leave everyone? Why did you let me go?
Oliver: Maybe because I don't really believe that it's going to work and then I make sure that it doesn't work."

Hal: Well, let's say that since you were little, you always dreamed of getting a lion. And you wait, and you wait, and you wait, and you wait but the lion doesn't come. And along comes a giraffe. You can be alone, or you can be with the giraffe.
Oliver: I'd wait for the lion.
Hal: That's why I worry about you.

- ¡No me importa! No me importa...
- ¿Por qué me haces esto? ¿qué te he hecho yo?
